HISTORY:

It began with a personal vow to her father, who taught her early on the flavors of true Spanish cuisine.  Sylvana wanted to open a Bohemian style Tavern in Lubbock, in the panhandle of Texas. Although, she was quite successful with the Interior Design Business that she had created, she desired to embark on something different.   Being grateful to her father in law Dr. Clinton McPherson, aptly known as the Founding Father of the Texas Wine Industry,  she desired also to support the industry her husband had pledged his adult life to.  Alas, her love for unusual food,  good  wine, and the arts, became a theme she could not help but develop further.   On January 13, 2004 she began her dream right in the heart of the Depot District, creating what is La Diosa Cellars today. The dream has evolved like a fine wine into what many consider to be an oasis of uniquely simple, yet sophisticated dining with an edge of elegance and warmth.

Sylvana continues her dream, passionately serving her customers. She is committed to quality wine, food, entertainment and ambiance. The experience is always memorable.

La Diosa Cellars is the only winery to operate within the city limits. It is much more than your typical winery. La Diosa, which is Spanish for "the Goddess", is an eclectic, elegant, yet down-to-earth venue that offers a Bistro menu, coffee bar, and a variety of Texas Wines, in addition to the La Diosa label. La Diosa produces about 2000 cases a year. The fruit is contracted from Texas High Plains Appellation vineyards throughout the Plains region and as far west as Dell City. Kim McPherson, award-winning winemaker, is La Diosa’s Wine Consultant. Varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Sangiovese, Viognier, and a very special Sangria. Several house blends include Bella Rosa, Bella Riojo, and Bella Blanca.

In support of the Texas Wine Industry, we are proud to offer wines from our fellow West Texas neighbors, select Hill Country wineries, and East Texas wineries.

WINE LABEL AND BRAND:

Sylvana’s daughter Kassandra met artist Brandi Fairbanks of Bellingham, Washington at an arts festival in the Northwestern Coastal region during the very same time that Sylvana was developing her dream, a dream that still lacked a name. Kassandra presented her mother with a gift from artist Brandi Fairbanks. Upon presentation of the gift, Sylvana’s husband Kim, announced "There is your wine label!".  Indeed, all agreed!  It was perfect! The exquisite, angelic like figure drinking wine would embellish her theme.  However, she needed a name. On one very festive evening, while Sylvana was home,  (away from home)  visiting her sisters and mother in California, the name of Sylvana's dream venture La Diosa, Spanish for “The Goddess” emerged.  Sylvana has five sisters for whom she is ever so grateful for.  In honor of all of the women that continue to share their wisdom and inspire her to honor her dreams,  she reflects that La Diosa Cellars is named to celebrate all Women and the Goddess in each of us.
